Job Description
The Chevrolet Communications Senior Manager (Lifestyle, Strategy) is a senior people leader and the enterprise leader for Chevrolet’s lifestyle, earned-first strategy, and community engagement communications. This role owns a distinct business area within GM Global Communications, responsible for defining and leading Chevrolet’s lifestyle, earned media, and community engagement strategy, with a focus on breakthrough storytelling that builds brand relevance and advocacy and advances GM’s enterprise priorities.
Operating with broad autonomy, this leader will:
Own and govern integrated earned-first communications strategies for Chevrolet with a strong emphasis on lifestyle media, community engagement, and multi-platform storytelling, including the policies, standards, and governance that guide how Chevrolet shows up in culture and communities.
Serve as a key strategic counselor and advisor to the Director, Chevrolet Communications, and senior GM leaders and, where appropriate, as a proxy for Chevrolet Communications with senior leadership, cross-functional partners, and external stakeholders.
Lead a multi-disciplinary organization of managers, individual contributors, and agencies to deliver high-impact, data-informed programs that support the Chevy brand, product launches, and enterprise priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning -
Develop and own Chevrolet’s lifestyle and community communications strategy, aligned to brand, product, and enterprise objectives.
Translate high-level business and brand goals into clear communications priorities, annual plans, and KPIs for lifestyle and community engagement workstreams.
Anticipate cultural, competitive, and social trends, turning insights into timely, earned-first opportunities for Chevrolet and informing broader functional strategy and guidance for other teams where appropriate.
Define and steward governance, standards, and playbooks for Chevrolet’s lifestyle and community storytelling, ensuring alignment with GM’s values, behaviors, and long-term strategy.
Earned Media & Storytelling (Lifestyle & Community) -
Lead end-to-end earned media strategy and execution across lifestyle, entertainment, culture, and community outlets, including digital and broadcast, setting the narrative architecture and quality bar for Chevrolet’s lifestyle and community storytelling
Build and maintain senior-level relationships with top-tier media, editors, producers, lifestyle journalists, creators, and community partners, serving as a visible and trusted point of contact for Chevrolet at the industry level.
Identify and activate Chevy community moments (owners, clubs, fans, grassroots organizations, and local partners) that reinforce brand love and advocacy.
Craft and oversee clear, compelling narratives, message frameworks, and storylines for lifestyle, product, and community initiatives.
Integrated Campaigns & Launches -
Lead cross-functional and agency teams to design and execute integrated earned, social, digital, and experiential campaigns that elevate Chevrolet in culture and deliver measurable business and reputation outcomes.
Partner closely with Marketing, Brand, Product, Social, Experiential teams to ensure communications is embedded from the outset into vehicle and feature launches, tentpoles, partnerships, and brand platforms, influencing upstream planning and investment decisions.
Apply data, insights, and measurement to evaluate performance and continually optimize strategy, content, and engagement, owning the measurement framework and reporting for Chevrolet lifestyle and community communications.
People Leadership & Stakeholder Management -
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing organization (internal team and agencies), with clear objectives, priorities, and success metrics.
Build long-term bench strength and succession plans for this business area, ensuring the team’s skills and capabilities evolve with the needs of Chevrolet and GM.
Model and cultivate GM Global Communications competencies: clear and effective writing, strong verbal and presentation skills, thoughtful stakeholder influence, creative storytelling, and strong strategic thinking.
Provide direct counsel and executive-ready recommendations to senior leaders, demonstrating strong executive presence and judgment.
Drive alignment across multiple stakeholders and functions, resolving competing priorities and navigating complexity to deliver results for Chevrolet, often making recommendations that influence functional and enterprise-level decisions.
Qualifications:
15+ years of experience in external communications, public relations, brand or lifestyle communications, or related fields, ideally with a mix of agency and in-house leadership roles, including leadership of complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives with enterprise impact.
Deep experience in earned media and media relations, including:
Building and managing high-level relationships with lifestyle, culture, entertainment, and community media.
Developing and pitching stories that secure meaningful editorial, broadcast, and digital coverage.
Proven track record leading lifestyle and/or community engagement programs that connect brands to culture and communities in credible, authentic ways, with clear evidence of moving key business, brand, or reputation metrics.
Demonstrated people leadership experience (direct reports and complex cross-functional/agency leadership), including coaching, feedback, performance management, and capability-building.
Executive presence with a strong ability to:
Advise and influence senior leaders.
Present complex strategies in a clear, concise, and persuasive way.
Represent Chevrolet Communications in high-visibility internal and external settings.
Exceptional writing and storytelling skills — clear, concise, and audience-specific across press materials, talking points, executive communications, presentations, and digital content.
Strong strategic thinking and business acumen, with experience setting strategy, defining KPIs, and using data and insights to drive decisions.
Proven ability to operate independently in a complex, fast-paced environment with broad latitude for judgment and decision-making, exercising sound judgment in situations with high ambiguity and reputational risk.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience launching consumer brands or products (e.g., CPG, tech, lifestyle), with a strong understanding of how to build desire, differentiation, and advocacy through communications.
Experience leading multi-platform campaigns that integrate earned media, social, influencers, experiential, and partnerships.
Automotive and/or mobility experience, particularly in brand and product storytelling, is a strong plus.
Travel:
Travel to Detroit and other locations will be required for major meetings, events, launches, and community activations, as well as for on-the-ground leadership of key programs and team engagement.
Compensation:
The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws.
The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
