Performs a combination of cleaning duties in the clinics and patient care areas while following hospital safety protocols. Job duties may require travel to offsite clinics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, breakrooms, restrooms, corridors, stairways, and other work areas so that health standards are met.
  • Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers.
  • Empty wastebaskets and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas.
  • Sweep, and scrub floors, using brooms and mops.
  • Dust and polish furniture and equipment.
  • Keep storage areas and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Stock toilet paper and paper towel holders in bathrooms.
  • Clean breakroom and kitchen areas, including countertops, sinks, microwave, and refrigerator.
  • Clean windows, doors, and other high-touch areas.
  • Sort, count, and mark clean linens, and store them on linen shelves.
  • Cleans and disinfects patient rooms and public areas as assigned daily, following environmental services procedures.
  • May work with biohazardous materials, using proper protocol for use and disposal.
  • Reports all building and/or furniture maintenance requirements to the Director of Support Services.
  • Responsible for the operation of cleaning equipment in a safe and productive manner.
  • Protects patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates clear ownership of workplace and patient safety.
  • Reports mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activities.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirement

Education: High School diploma or GED required

Licensure/Certification: Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician preferred within one year of hire. A valid Indiana Driver’s license in good standing is required.

Experience: 2 – 3 years previous housekeeping/janitorial experience preferred. Knowledge of safety procedures. Must be able to operate Environmental Services equipment. Ability to read directions on labels. Ability to follow verbal instructions.

Physical Requirements: Frequent standing and walking. May frequently lift up to 50 lbs. Frequent reaching, stooping, and bending.
