The medical scribe will assist the provider with clerical and information technology duties, allowing the provider to focus attention on providing the best care to the patient. The medical scribe is responsible for performing documentation in the Electronic Medical Record System (EMR) during the patient visit, gathering information for the patients visit and partnering with the physician to provide exemplary care to patients. Must be able to anticipate provider needs to facilitate the delivery of care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for documenting accurate and detailed information of patient visits.
  • Within the framework of EMR systems, the Medical Scribe researches past results and records.
  • At the provider’s request, the Medical Scribe must be able to locate past medical records, prior lab/radiology results, or past visit histories for the provider to review.
  • Within the EMR itself the Medical Scribe needs the ability to enter data into the chart on the provider’s behalf. All Medical Scribe-entered data is reviewed and authenticated by the provider.

  • Reports mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activities.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements

Education: High School diploma/GED required. Associates degree or healthcare related certification preferred.

Licensure/Certification: N/A

Experience: Knowledge of medical terminology; Medical Assistant experience preferred. Excellent computer skills and strong attention to detail required. Impeccable verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Excellent bedside manner.

Physical Requirements: Frequent standing. Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasionally lift 25 lbs.
