Position Summary
Indiana University School of Medicine, Bloomington (IUSM-Bloomington) is announcing the search for a Residency Program Director in Internal Medicine. The Bloomington Residency Program Director in Internal Medicine will lead this exciting residency program in the South Region of IU Health. The program will Match its first class of residents in March 2026. The Program Director will be a dually employed clinical track faculty member in the Department of Internal Medicine at the IU School of Medicine and will have the opportunity to build this new primary care-focused Internal Medicine residency.

The Bloomington campus of the IUSM and the South Region of IU Health have a rich tradition of educational collaboration. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to strengthen collaborations with all the Internal Medicine and Internal Medicine subspecialty providers, other specialty leaders, and IU-B affiliated health sciences. The Internal Medicine Program Director will have a direct reporting line to the Designated Institutional Officer of the IUSM as well as the Chief Academic Officer of the South Region of IU Health.

The Internal Medicine Program Director will implement the new Internal Medicine GME program, including supervising administrative staff and core faculty, maintaining the curriculum, teaching and mentoring residents and students, and recruiting residents. This position will be supported at a 50% FTE level and will include 50% clinical commitment. Clinical time will be supported by an IUHMG clinical appointment in the IU Health South Region.

IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the country with more than 20,000 living alumni and 3,000 learners on nine campuses across the state. Its faculty is made up of more than 2,900 full-time members and over 3,700 adjunct faculty who are responsible for training medical, graduate and postgraduate students. IU School of Medicine is the only allopathic medical school in Indiana.

IUSM-Bloomington fosters strong collaboration among investigators through centers, institutes, and groups that reach across departments, schools, and campuses. The research interests of its faculty are broad and include molecular and cellular biology, genetics and epigenetics, cancer biology, informatics, and medical education. With a shared interest in understanding the relationship between structure and function in health and human disease, these groups provide research opportunities for undergraduates, medical and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.

Basic Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (MD or DO)
  • Active and unrestricted Indiana Medical License, or meets the requirements and qualifications for an active and unrestricted Indiana medical license
  • Dedicated educational background and training in Graduate Medical Education, as demonstrated by at least three years in a core faculty position with an established residency program.
