RECREATIONAL SPORTS (BL-RECS-IUBLA)

Recreational Sports is part of the Office of Student Life, which is dedicated to supporting students¿ health, safety, and success throughout their IU experience. The Recreational Sports mission is to connect, inform, and inspire individuals to lead active, healthy lifestyles. Serving over 36,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members annually, we offer a wide variety of programs across 2 multipurpose facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, adventure spaces, and more. Our team includes 46 professional staff and over 800 student employees.

The Outreach Program Assistant supports the coordination of outreach initiatives and collaborates with the Outreach team and Office of Student Life Marketing to promote programs and connect students to recreational opportunities across campus. This role offers a great opportunity to stay active, develop leadership and communication skills, and become part of a supportive campus community. You'll also gain valuable experience in customer service, conflict resolution, time management, and teamwork skills that are transferable to any future career.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Assists in training and supporting Outreach hourly staff.
- Coordinates schedules and shift logistics for Outreach staff.
- Supports outreach events, tabling, and promotional activities.
- Represents Recreational Sports at campus events and programs.
- Collaborates on social media content creation and digital engagement.
- Participates in team meetings and contributes to planning efforts.
EDUCATION
Required
- General knowledge at the high school level
Preferred
- Some college
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- Experience working in a collaborative environment with strong communication demands
Preferred
- Previous experience with Recreational Sports or outreach/event programming
SKILLS
Required
- Strong communication and public speaking skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Organization and time management skills
- Creativity and experience with social media
- Attention to detail and customer service focus
These positions require standing for long periods of time and frequently moving about the workspace. Positions require working both indoors and outdoors and ability to move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Onsite work will take place at the following campus recreation facilities:
- Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC)
- Bill Garrett Fieldhouse
- Northwest Recreation Park
Additional facilities on and off campus as necessary based on activity
$18.55 per hour
This position is work-study eligible
Average of 15 hours per week including event-based scheduling and occasional evenings/weekends.
