The Community Engagement Specialist advances Indiana Public Media's mission by planning, coordinating, and executing events and engagement initiatives for donors, audience members, and community members.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Serves as a central point of coordination across the marketing, content, and development teams to ensure a cohesive and data-informed approach to audience engagement.
- Responsible for implementing a wide range of events and community-focused experiences, managing logistics and budgets, and evaluating outcomes to inform future planning.
- Focuses on implementing engagement activities and organizational priorities established through station planning processes rather than developing overall engagement strategy.
- Coordinates and implements a variety of public-facing and member-focused events that align with Indiana Public Media's content and mission.
- Other duties may include screenings, live broadcasts, podcast tapings, concerts, community conversations, and family-oriented programs. This may include supporting revenue-generating as well as solely mission-driven initiatives.
- Plans, organizes, and executes events and engagement initiatives from initial planning through completion.
- Manages detailed logistics including scheduling, vendor coordination, and on-site operations.
- Ensures engagement activities comply with applicable Indiana University policies, procedures, and administrative requirements.
- Coordinates with university offices including Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, Event Services, and Risk Management as necessary to support engagement activities and ensure compliance with all policies.
- Tracks and manages event budgets and expenses.
- Develops and maintains event timelines, checklists, and communications plans.
- Helps to ensure events reflect the breadth of Indiana Public Media programming and services.
- Coordinates with internal teams to align event messaging and goals.
- Maintains organized systems for contacts, communications, and event planning tools. Keep meticulous records to maintain institutional knowledge and event histories.
- Coordinates staff (on-air personalities, station staff, and producers) volunteers, student employees, interns, and temporary event staff as needed.
- Serves as a primary liaison between Indiana Public Media and community stakeholders, fostering relationships that expand reach and enhance engagement.
- Builds and maintains partnerships with community organizations and collaborators.
- Serves as a conduit for community feedback and input.
- Identifies and supports partnership opportunities that align with established organizational priorities.
- Provides administrative support to the Community Advisory Board, including meeting logistics, communications, scheduling, and documentation.
- Supports the development and administration of audience surveys, event evaluations, and feedback tools.
- Assists in identifying trends and recommending improvements based on findings.
- Collects, organizes, and maintains audience engagement data, event participation metrics, and partnership information.
General Responsibilities
- Plans a variety of recurring and ad hoc events for the university and oversees budgets, vendor contracts, transportation, catering, signage, equipment, technology, and other event components. Coordinates event activities prior to and on the day of events.
- Consults with internal and external constituencies to plan event timelines and specifications and negotiate the terms of agreements and contracts.
- Works closely with vendors and staff to ensure goods and services arrive timely and in acceptable condition for events.
- Interfaces with media and/or marketing and communications representatives regarding calendar of events and event publicity.
- Tracks and analyzes event metrics, such as attendance, participant feedback, and expenses; monitors effectiveness and return of investment; tracks suggested event improvements for future implementation in recurring events.
- Ensures events adhere to university guidelines and policies and event contracts, agreements, and specifications.
- May make procedural and policy recommendations to improve operational efficiency.
- May provide guidance to lower-level Event Services Specialists; may delegate administrative tasks to Event Services Coordinators.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, public administration, or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE

- 2 years in events, hospitality, or related field.

After initial training period, this position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between 1 remote workday and 4 days in-person work). All hybrid schedules are subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
$52,000 - $60,000 annually
Work hours generally mirror standard business hours, but most events take place on weekends or during the evening hours.
