Established in 1973, La Casa/Latino Cultural Center serves as an important link and advocate between the university and the Latine community, working closely with other campus units, the Bloomington community, and state and national groups. Building on a strong campus community, La Casa provides programming, support, and opportunities to foster a sense of belonging and pride for Latine students, while assisting in their academic, leadership, professional, and social development.
This position performs a variety of tasks related to the daily operation of the La Casa/Latino Cultural Center including office services coverage, perform administration, programming and outreach.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Participates in external outreach endeavors including working the La Casa information table at resource fairs.
- Potential for additional project assignments.
- Facilitates and provides support with workshops, presentations and programs such as New Students Orientation, programs geared for summer Groups students, and staff information table at resources fairs.
- Greets guests and provide tours of the center.
- Answers questions and provide resources to parents, students, faculty, alumni and others.
- Performs computer work that may include database entry, newsletters and producing materials for programs.
- Assists with marketing, set-up, participation, staffing and cleanup of events.
- Staffs the center and help with some administrative tasks.
EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Preferred
- Some college coursework in communications, public affairs, education, nonprofit management, or a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
- 1 year of experience in an administrative, customer service, or office support role (can include volunteer or student organization experience).
- Experience supporting events, programs, or outreach initiatives.
- Experience working in a university, nonprofit, or cultural/community center setting.
SKILLS
Required
- Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment
- Able to interact professionally, tactfully and politely with faculty, staff, students, parents, and community representatives
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Knowledge of common Office applications, including Word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Dependability and flexibility
Preferred
- Knowledge of Latino cultures
- Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$20.00 an hour
20 hours per week.
Schedule is flexible during business hours of operation Monday- Friday, 9am to 5pm.
May include weekends for special events and programs.
