As part of Student Life, the Office of the Dean of Students serves as a central hub for student advocacy, support, and engagement. The office provides guidance to students navigating challenges, connects them with resources, and promotes a caring and inclusive campus environment. This position supports the daily operations of the Dean of Students team, helping ensure students, families, and campus partners feel welcomed, heard, and supported.

The Office of Student Life is hiring a part-time student employee to serve as Office Support Ambassador for the Dean of Students office. In this role, students will provide front-line support to visitors, assist with administrative tasks, and help ensure a welcoming, professional environment for all guests and callers. This position involves routine interaction with confidential student information.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Answers telephone calls, assesses the needs of the caller, and routes information or calls to the appropriate staff member.
  • Greets and checks in all visitors, offering general office information and assistance as needed.
  • Pick up, drop off, and sort incoming departmental mail.
  • Assists with daily office organization and record keeping.
  • Supports special projects and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University Bloomington

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

  • Experience in customer service, peer support, or office assistance

SKILLS

Required

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Comfort working in a public-facing office setting
  • Comfortable interacting with a variety of people in professional or campus settings
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to support and respect all students
  • Clear and effective communication skills across in-person and digital platforms
  • High level of integrity and reliability

Preferred

  • Familiarity with handling confidential records or information

This role may occasionally involve receiving calls related to urgent or crisis situations. Office Support Ambassadors must remain calm, professional, and attentive while gathering and relaying key information. The position is primarily sedentary but does involve movement around the office and campus for tasks such as mail delivery. All essential functions can be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Approximately 10-15 hours per week.

Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedules.

Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
