ACADEMIC SUPPORT (BL-ACS-IUBLA)

The Student Academic Center (SAC) provides tutoring, academic coaching and support courses for students who need a little help. Free math and writing tutoring are offered in various locations on campus to help students develop the study skills needed to succeed in the classroom. SAC is currently hiring receptionists.

The primary role for this position is to serve as a public-facing receptionist in one of the SAC's residential tutoring locations across campus, primarily residence halls.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Staffs the front desk of each SAC residential tutoring location and serves as the point of first contact for visitors to the facility.
  • Helps students sign-up for evening assistance, directs them to the proper locations within the facility, answers phone calls, and provides information about academic resources at the SAC and across campus upon request.
  • Assists with the check-in process and thus facilitates data collection about student visits.

Required

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Indiana University Bloomington

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

  • Experience working with the public.

SKILLS

Required

  • Possess strong communication skills.
  • Possesses good communication skills and a friendly yet professional demeanor.
  • Ability to be patient when dealing with students and other staff members, both individually and in small groups.
  • Ability to be a conscientious employee, observing accepted standards of professional behavior (timely attendance, recording hours).

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Some daytime hours may be required for those who work in various satellite locations.

$12.00 per hour

Most receptionists will be expected to work approximately 8-12 hours per week. Work schedules are set at the beginning of each semester (or at the time of hire).

Expected to work 1-3 evenings per week.

The employee must maintain a maximum of no more than 29 hours per week across all positions of employment held with IU.

Residential Tutoring Hours: Monday - Thursday from 7:00 PM -10:00 PM
