Often seen as the heart of campus, the Indiana Memorial Union is a historic 500,000 square foot Student Union which serves as the center of the student experience and for many visitors represents their first experience with Hoosier Hospitality. The Student Building Manager at the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU), in partnership with various departments, plays a key role in daily operations by fostering a safe, welcoming, and well-coordinated environment.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Provides essential support to the overall guest experience and helps ensure smooth operations during scheduled shifts.
• Serves as the main point of contact for guests, students, faculty, and staff during assigned shifts.
• Provides proactive guest service, including wayfinding assistance and general support to visitors throughout the building.
• Conducts regular building rounds to ensure safety, security, and policy compliance.
• Greets and assists clients with meeting room reservations.
• Locks/unlocks meeting rooms and respond to radio communications.
• Addresses and reports facility issues, policy violations, or emergencies as they arise.
• Enforces building policies to maintain a secure and welcoming environment.
• Supports emergency response procedures as needed.
• Serves as primary on-site contact during evenings and weekends.
• Documents shift activities in detailed reports, including incidents, maintenance issues, and other notable occurrences.

EDUCATION

Required

• Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University Bloomington

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

• CPR, AED, and/or First Aid certification

SKILLS

Required

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Comfortable working and collaborating with people from different backgrounds
• Able to work independently and take initiative
• Good at solving problems and handling unexpected situations
• Able to manage conflicts calmly and respectfully
• Basic computer skills for completing reports and monitoring security cameras

This role requires the ability to move effectively through the building, communicate with colleagues and guests, and occasionally move up to 40 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
