Position Summary:
The Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism (ISCA) in the Borns Jewish Studies Program at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a Visiting Fellow in Antisemitism Studies. ISCA is one of the leading research institutes dedicated to the scholarly study of contemporary antisemitism, and this fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity to pursue original research in the field while contributing to the intellectual life of the institute and the broader program.

The fellowship is open to scholars working in any discipline and using any methodological approach, including but not limited to historical, sociological, computational, psychological, legal, literary, or educational perspectives on antisemitism. We particularly welcome candidates whose work addresses contemporary manifestations of antisemitism in Europe, North America, the Middle East, or online environments, and whose research complements and enriches ISCA’s existing portfolio of projects. Position is expected to begin January 1, 2027, for a one-year term, with the possibility of renewal for a second year.

Core Responsibilities:
Research
  • Pursue an independent, original research agenda in antisemitism studies, resulting in publications, conference presentations, or other scholarly outputs.
  • Participate actively in ISCA seminars, colloquia, research workshops, and collaborative discussions.
  • Contribute to ISCA’s public-facing activities, including events, reports, and media engagement as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with ISCA faculty and research staff on ongoing and emerging projects.

Teaching
  • Teach one course per semester on antisemitism or a closely related topic, at the undergraduate or graduate level, in coordination with the Borns Jewish Studies Program.

Community and Program Engagement
  • Participate in the intellectual community of the Borns Jewish Studies Program through lectures, workshops, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Contribute to grant writing and funding applications in support of ISCA’s research mission as appropriate.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students engaged in antisemitism-related research where relevant.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • PhD in a relevant field. The PhD must be completed by the start of the appointment.
  • Demonstrated research focus on antisemitism.
  • Strong record of scholarly publication or a clear publication trajectory based on dissertation or postdoctoral work.
  • Ability to work collegially in an interdisciplinary research environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Preferred:
  • Regional or thematic expertise in contemporary antisemitism (e.g., Europe, North America, online/digital environments, the Middle East, campus contexts).
  • Experience with or interest in public-facing scholarship, policy engagement, or applied research.
  • Proficiency in languages relevant to the study of antisemitism
  • Prior teaching experience at the university level.
