The Indiana University School of Public Health‐Bloomington (SPH‐B) invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

This 10-month appointment would ideally start August 1, 2027, although an earlier or later start date is negotiable. The SPH-B seeks individuals who will contribute to scientific and academic excellence through rigorous research, teaching, and service in biostatistics with special emphasis on the machine learning and artificial intelligence, while advancing interdisciplinary collaboration and the development and application of evidence to improve public health.

The department also houses the Biostatistics Consulting Center, which provides study design and data analysis expertise for health-related research and supports interdisciplinary research collaborations across Indiana University and beyond.

Responsibilities: Tenure-track faculty are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research portfolio including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding to conduct cutting-edge research in modern public health science both as a corresponding principal investigator and a collaborating investigator; teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level as designated by the department chairperson; and actively providing service internally to the department, school and university and externally to the profession and/or the community.Areas of special interest include, but are not limited to modern machine learning methods, artificial intelligence (AI), high-dimensional data analysis and novel clinical trials design.

Candidates must hold a doctorate degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Candidates must have teaching experience at the graduate or professional level. Good interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively and congenially across disciplines are required. Leadership skills and vision for enhancing the academic components of an interdisciplinary department are essential. Candidates for associate and full professor positions must also demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement appropriate for a senior career level, including extramurally funded research as a corresponding principal investigator, current funding or strong potential to secure external funding, and experience leading sizeable research initiatives.
