The Student Design Intern provides support to the design team by assisting with interior design projects, space assessments, furniture and finish selections, and project documentation.

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Assists designers with a variety of interior design and space planning projects.
• Supports the selection and coordination of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFandE) to meet project needs and design standards.
• Conducts field surveys and gathers measurements and existing conditions information for campus spaces.
• Maintains and organizes material, finish, and sample libraries to ensure resources are current and accessible.
• Assists with preparing design presentations, project documentation, and visual materials.
• Supports project research, product sourcing, and specification development.
• Collaborates with team members to help ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.

EDUCATION

Required

• Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.

Preferred

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate in Junior or Senior class standing at Indiana University majoring within the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

• Possess a valid driver's license with ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.

SKILLS

Required

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and interact professionally stakeholders.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or other computer-aided design (CAD) software.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines.
• Basic understanding of interior design principles, space planning, and drafting techniques.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain project files, documents, and sample libraries.

Preferred

• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
• Familiarity with Revit, SketchUp, or other 3D modeling software.
• Knowledge of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFandE) selection and specification.
• Experience creating design presentations, renderings, or visual materials.
• Understanding of sustainable design practices and accessibility standards.
• Previous coursework or experience in interior design, architecture, environmental design, or a related field.

This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 30 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.

Bloomington, Indiana

$14.00 per hour

Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Approximately 10 to 15 hours per week.

Work schedule is flexible and will be coordinated around the student's academic commitments and class schedule.

Specific work hours will be determined in collaboration with the supervisor based on project needs and student availability.
