RADIO-TELEVISION SERVICES (BL-RTVS-IUBLA)

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Produces and hosts local newscasts during NPR's Morning Edition, 1 of WFIU's most-listened-to programs.
• Monitors available news content and determines the strongest leads and stories for each newscast, with an emphasis on sound, variety and diversity of topics.
• Uses sound news judgment to determine which stories should lead, hold or repeat throughout the morning.
• Monitors breaking and developing news and evaluates press releases and other verified information for inclusion in newscasts.
• Rewrites information into concise news spots suitable for on-air presentation.
• Edits stories and sound from reporters from the previous evening for use in morning newscasts and on the website.
• Organizes and prepares audio clips for Morning Edition host using audio production and radio automation software.
• Reads live local news cut-ins during Morning Edition.
• Produces news spots by gathering information and sound for newscasts and web stories.
• Updates the station website with overnight reporting, news partner content and stories produced during the morning.
• Shares news stories through station social media platforms.
• Provides news rundowns and story ideas to the senior news editor.
• Assists with general newsroom duties and other tasks related to daily news production as assigned.
• Maintains accuracy, timeliness and journalistic standards across on-air, web and social media content.

EDUCATION

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• Demonstrates strong newsroom editing, strategy, and on-air broadcasting skills.

$19.00 - $25.00 per hour depending on experience

5:00 AM - 10:30 AM (with some flexibility or variability on the needs of a given week)

29 hours per week, weekdays. Part-time employees at Indiana University (IU) may not work over 29 hours per week across all University-held positions.
