FIRST NATIONS EDUCATIONAL & CU (BL-FNCC-IUBLA)

The Office of Student Life staff and multiple departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. The First Nations Educational and Cultural Center (FNECC) supports American Indian and indigenous students in their transition to and achievement at Indiana University Bloomington with campus programs and an extended network of resources and information designed to inspire, encourage, and empower students for success.

The Part-time Student Office Assistant will support the daily operations of the First Nations Educational and Cultural Center by providing office coverage and assisting with administrative, programming, and outreach initiatives.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Assists with facilitating workshops, speaker presentations, and programs such as New Students Orientation, programs students and staff information table at resources fairs.
  • Answers and transfers phone calls.
  • Greets and directs guests.
  • Answers questions and provide resources to parents, students, faculty, alumni and others.
  • Performs computer work that may include database entry, updating newsletters/calendars and producing materials for programs and workshops.
  • Assists with marketing, set-up, participation, staffing and cleanup of events.
  • Additional project assignments may be provided based on the student's skills and interests.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University Bloomington.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 6 months office experience.

Preferred

  • Customer Service experience.
  • Event Coordinator experience.

SKILLS

Required

  • Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to interact professionally, tactfully and politely with faculty, staff, students, and community representatives.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of common Office applications, including Word processing, spreadsheet, data base, and presentation software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependability and flexibility.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of First Nations cultures.

This position is primarily sedentary, with periods of time moving around the office or campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$12.00 per hour

5-15 hours per week based on availability, not to exceed 29 hours per week across all campus positions

Additional hours may be needed based on office or event needs
