FACILITY OPERATIONS-IUB (BL-PHYP-IUBLA)

Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that Indiana University (IU) campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. A unit within CPF, Facility Operations maintains our physical campus to support research, teaching, and learning at Indiana University Bloomington. As a unit of Capital Planning and Facilities, Facility Operations provides wide-ranging services all with the goal of creating a beautiful, well-functioning campus.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Leads and guides Fire and Security Shop staff, performing Fire and Security Tech duties.
  • Sets schedules, priorities, train, and monitor staff performance.
  • Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; assist in recruiting and hiring.
  • Tracks and troubleshoots staff issues, reports to supervisor.
  • Provides training to improve efficiency; identify development opportunities.
  • Keeps next-level leaders informed of trends and significant problems.
  • Supervises employees via job work orders for task completion.
  • Reviews and approves time entries in Maintenance Management System (MMS) and Kuali; resolves discrepancies with HR and payroll.
  • Orders and receives parts; coordinates with suppliers using IU procurement policy.
  • Assists supervisor in daily operations and provide coverage for other shops.
  • Occasionally works overtime, participate in on-call rotation, and support events.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Identifies maintenance projects, prepares scopes, and estimates time and costs.
  • Uses MMS (AIM) work order system to perform work and analyze performance.
  • Represents Building Maintenance Operations (BMO) in interactions with all university levels and divisions.
  • Produces and present written material for executive management.
  • Collaborates with coordinators to schedule electrical service interruptions.
  • Promotes team growth in job skills and interpersonal relationships.

General Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day guidance and serves in a lead capacity to craft work staff while also performing the responsibilities of the role of craft foreman supervisor.
  • Sets schedules, establishes priorities, trains, and monitors performance of craft work staff.
  • Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; may participate in recruiting, hiring, and selection. Tracks issues and concerns among craft work staff; troubleshoots and reports to supervisor as appropriate.
  • Provides training to assigned staff to improve efficiency; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff.
  • Tracks issues and concerns among craft work staff; keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems.

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 4 years in related field.

  • Proficiency in: CBORD access control administration, card reader installation and troubleshooting, electronic door hardware, IP camera installation and repair, video management systems, alarm programming, micro key monitoring, panic alarms, fire alarm troubleshooting, fire alarm testing, sprinkler system shutdown coordination, fire pump testing, and low-voltage networking and communications systems.

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
