The Indiana University (IU) School of Nursing is seeking an accomplished major gift fundraiser to serve as Director of Development. Working across the Bloomington, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis campuses, this front-line fundraising role offers the opportunity to connect donors with one of the nation's leading nursing schools advancing priorities such as student scholarships, endowed faculty positions, innovative research, and clinical education. With more than 24,500 alumni, a nationally ranked undergraduate program, and faculty conducting consequential research in areas such as cancer, chronic illness, health equity, and palliative care, IU Nursing offers an exceptional philanthropic story to tell.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Reports to the Executive Director of Development and Engagement.
- Manages a $1 Million Dollar portfolio of major and planned gift prospects and personally drives relationships from qualification through solicitation, closing, and stewardship.
- Gets in front of donors, uncovers what inspires their philanthropy, develops thoughtful strategies, and confidently ask for significant commitments.
- Partners with an experienced advancement leader, has support from a development coordinator, and access to the resources and expertise of the broader Indiana University advancement community.
General Responsibilities
- Identifies new prospects, cultivates relationships, and manages a portfolio and/or region of donors building a pipeline for solicitation.
- Executes plans and designs campaigns to sustain and increase donations.
- Collaborates with development colleagues university-wide to align prospects/donors' interests with university funding needs and opportunities.
- Maintains meaningful and consistent contact with potential donors to communicate university goals and solicit their support.
- Introduces campus/school fundraisers to appropriate gift prospects for cultivation.
- Documents communications, analyzes data, evaluates success and makes recommendations for change to campaign strategy.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
Preferred
- Advanced degree.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years of experience in fundraising/development, sales, communications, public relations, a higher education foundation, or related field.
Preferred
- Experience securing and advancing major gifts, particularly at the $50,000 plus level, is highly valued.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This position requires approximately 20 percent travel. Regular travel within Indiana for donor and prospect visits, events, and university activities, with occasional out-of-state travel as needed.

$75,000-$80,000 based upon with experience.
