Health Promotion at IU-Bloomington supports student success through a holistic and integrated approach to wellbeing. Health Promotion provides a broad range of prevention, education, and intervention services grounded in evidence-based practices, assessment, and evaluation. Core service areas include Substance Use Intervention Services, a Collegiate Recovery Community, Nutrition Services, and Health Education and Outreach, which offers workshops on topics such as mental health, sexual health education, hazing prevention, and alcohol and other drugs prevention. Together, these programs advance student wellbeing and contribute to a healthier, more thriving campus community.
This position will provide front-line support to visitors, assist with administrative tasks, and help ensure a welcoming, professional environment for all guests and callers. This position involves routine interaction with confidential student information.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Answers telephone calls, assesses the needs of the caller, and routes information or calls the appropriate staff member.
- Greets and checks in all visitors and offers general office information and assistance as needed.
- Picks up, drops off, and sorts incoming departmental mail.
- Manages inventory, distribution, and recordkeeping for health education and harm reduction supplies, including monitoring stock levels, restocking materials, fulfilling requests, and maintaining accurate usage and inventory data to ensure consistent availability for students.
- Guides students to check-in areas and wellness spaces.
- Addresses participant questions regarding Wellness Room services and resources.
- Performs computer work, which may include database entry, updating newsletters/calendars, and producing materials for programs and workshops.
- Provides logistical support for departmental outreach initiatives, programs, and events, including setup, teardown, and participation tracking.
- Supports special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Required
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University Bloomington.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
- Experience in customer service, peer support, or office assistance.
SKILLS
Required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Comfort working in a public-facing office setting.
- Comfortable interacting with a variety of people in professional or campus settings.
- Professional demeanor with the ability to support and respect all students.
- Clear and effective communication skills across in-person and digital platforms.
- High level of integrity and reliability.
Preferred
- Familiarity with handling confidential records or information.
This role may occasionally involve receiving calls related to urgent or crisis situations. Student Office Assistants must remain calm, professional, and attentive while gathering and relaying key information. The position is primarily sedentary but does involve movement around the office and campus for tasks such as mail delivery. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This is an in-person position.
$12.00 per hour
10-15 hours per week, with flexible schedules based on availability and department needs.
Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
