The Department of Biology is part of The College of Arts + Sciences, the oldest and largest academic division of Indiana University (IU).
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Under moderate supervision, processes purchase requests in IU's procurement system, Buy.IU.
- Places online orders and processes expense reports in Emburse as needed.
- Reviews invoices for accuracy and generates accurate cost and/or quantity receipts.
- Answers questions related to purchases, policies, and processes, serving as an informational resource for department or other departments in identifying appropriate vendors and suppliers and purchase methods.
- Communicates with suppliers and internal customers regarding purchases.
- Oversees inventory of necessary items and coordinates reorder, inventory receipt, and/or returns as needed.
- Collaborates with the Biology purchasing team to support one another's workload as needed.
- Monitors procurement processes and communicates issues with supervisor to inform decisions.
- Prepares reports to monitor outstanding procurement documents and payments.
General Responsibilities
- Under moderate supervision, performs routine and ad hoc administrative tasks in support of the procurement function, administering the transactions associated with obtaining goods and services for the university.
- Serves as an informational resource for department or other departments in identifying appropriate vendors and suppliers.
- Responds to employee inquiries and requests and explains policies and procedures.
- Monitors procurement processes and communicates issues with supervisor to inform decisions.
- Oversees inventory of necessary items and coordinates reorder, inventory receipt, and/or returns as needed.
- Prepares reports to monitor outstanding procurement documents and payments.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years in a relevant field.
Preferred
- Purchasing experience.
- Experience with IU systems and policies.

- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. $40,000 - $42,000 per year, depending on experience
