The Executive Director provides enterprise leadership for the Kelley School of Business graduate career-services operation. The role establishes and executes an integrated strategy for career coaching, professional development, career programming, alumni engagement, networking, technology, and career outcome measurement across the Kelley Direct Programs portfolio, the Full-Time plus Flex MBA, Specialized Masters Portfolio, and other Kelley graduate programs as appropriate.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Leads professional staff, manages the operating budget, and designs service models for residential and online graduate students across career stages, industries, and locations.
- Builds a cohesive, high-performing organization; ensures consistent quality and equitable access; strengthens employer and alumni relationships; and uses data, technology, and market insight to improve student outcomes and Kelley's competitive position.
- Sets and executes a multi-year vision for innovative graduate career services that advances student career goals and supports Kelley School and graduate program priorities.
- Integrates planning, governance, service standards, calendars, communications, technology, and reporting across Kelley Graduate Career Services and Kelley Direct Professional Advancement while tailoring delivery to distinct student populations.
- Translates labor-market trends, employer needs, student feedback, competitor practices, and emerging service models into operating priorities and investments.
- Advises senior and program leadership on career outcomes, student needs, organizational capacity, risks, and opportunities, and represents Kelley as a thought leader in graduate career services.
- Provides cross-functional leadership within Kelley's matrix structure, guiding shared and embedded partners in technology, events, operations, and finance.
- Sets clear performance expectations and key results; coaches and evaluates leaders and staff; and fosters collaboration, accountability, inclusion, innovation, learning, and service excellence.
- Sets the philosophy, quality standards, and engagement model for individualized and group coaching across residential and online programs, with proactive and inclusive support for students with varied goals, experience levels, identities, and access needs.
- Ensures timely support for career exploration, networking, resumes and professional profiles, interviewing, job-search strategy, negotiation, career pivots, and advancement within an existing organization.
- Provides strategic direction for career orientation, courses, workshops, panels, career fairs, networking events, treks, immersions, and other residential, hybrid, and virtual experiences.
- Integrates career expertise and professional advancement content across the student journey, including admissions where appropriate, onboarding, academic milestones, student life, and alumni engagement.
- Oversees asynchronous resources and just-in-time learning pathways, and uses participation, learning, satisfaction, and outcome data to improve or redesign services and programs.
- Develops a coordinated alumni and industry engagement strategy across graduate programs in partnership with Kelley Employer Relations and other school and university teams.
- Represents Kelley with employers, alumni, professional associations, peer institutions, vendors, and external partners; establishes clear ownership and shared accountability across student-facing and employer-facing functions.
- Partners with marketing and admissions to integrate career outcomes and professional advancement messaging throughout the prospective student journey.
- Develops and manages the operating budget, staffing plan, contracts, technology investments, external partnerships, travel, and resource allocation for the combined organization.
- Modernizes career platforms and workflows, including coaching and appointment systems, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, student resources, Canvas, networking platforms, dashboards, AI-enabled services, and job boards managed with Employer Relations.
- Establishes data definitions, governance, collection practices, dashboards, and reporting for coaching, programming, engagement, student milestones, placements, promotions, career changes, and other outcomes.
- Uses evidence to improve services and communicate impact to leadership, program offices, faculty, students, alumni, employers, ranking organizations, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
General Responsibilities
- Contributes on senior leadership teams to formulate strategic planning and the highest-level operational objectives for career services areas.
- Establishes long-term business plans and long-term strategic objectives.
- Directs leadership staff who provide supervision to career services teams.
- Responsible for escalated operational issues, including human resources and/or people management situations.
- Drives innovation and excellence within the area of career services; reviews and creates policies and procedures.
- Determines overall budget for career services teams; reviews and approves financial proposals from direct reporting leaders; has significant fiscal responsibilities that require frequent interaction with executive leaders.
- Provides expertise and identifies grant and/or funding opportunities; develops business relationships across the university and externally.
- Stays up-to-date on new career services standards, technologies, policies, and procedures and works collaboratively with other career services leaders across departments and/or campuses in determining standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures; ensures the adoption and implementation by direct reporting leaders.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in business, counseling, or related field
Preferred
- Master's degree in business, counseling, higher education, human resources, or a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 5 years in career services, business, human resources, counseling, or related field.
- 3 years of management experience in related field.
Preferred
- 8 years of progressively responsible experience in career services, talent, higher education, or a related field, including leadership of leaders or multiple functional areas.
- Experience supporting graduate business students. Ideally serving traditional students and working professionals, in residential and online formats.
- Experience with executive coaching, employer and alumni engagement, career curriculum or programming, career technologies, and career outcome reporting.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This is a high-visibility leadership role serving residential and online graduate students and collaborating with internal and external partners. Periodic evening or weekend programming and travel for employer, alumni, conference, immersion, or student events may be required. Work arrangements and travel expectations are subject to Kelley School and Indiana University policy.

$120,000 - $130,000 annually
