Department Specific Responsibilities
- Maintains, repairs, and services all departmental analog and digital audio equipment, audio wiring, and signal-flow infrastructure.
- Performs component and system-level electronic troubleshooting; determines appropriate repair pathways and executes in-house repairs or coordinates external repair and maintenance services.
- Maintains program, casts call, and intercom systems supporting Indiana University (IU) Opera Theater productions.
- Administers, configures, and maintains departmental Mac and PC audio workstations, including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Wavelab, plug-ins, interfaces, and control surfaces.
- Implements preventive maintenance schedules, maintains physical signal-flow infrastructure; creates, tracks, and updates system documentation.
- Supports Dante-based audio networks and signal distribution, collaborating with campus IT where necessary for network connectivity and system integration.
- Inspects and maintains live sound and Public Address (PA) systems, adhering to strict safety protocols for equipment operation, power distribution, and rigging.
- Assists faculty and production staff with technical planning, workflow setup, and the installation/commissioning of new audio systems.
- Provides technical support where necessary for live performances and events, including evenings and weekends.
- Supervises, trains, and assigns tasks to student workers.
General Responsibilities
- Monitors productions and signals, determines proper operation of broadcast quality equipment, provides troubleshooting guidance, and corrects basic and complex issues involving sound quality, production playback, and file transfer.
- Manages, designs, plans, installs, operates, and maintains video production facilities, tape and server recording and editing equipment, and lighting and stage equipment, including digital cameras, switchers, graphics, routing, recording, playback, encoding, embedding, compression, and multiplexing with multiple layers of audio.
- Assesses equipment needs for productions, procures necessary materials, and configures installation to ensure consistent operations during production.
- Designs and implements preventive maintenance schedules and operating procedures to maintain equipment.
- Tests, adjusts, and evaluates installed systems and approves post-production media for technical quality for release to other broadcasters regularly.
- May train Broadcast Technicians and/or Audio/Video Technicians on procedures and production equipment operations.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in broadcast engineering, production engineering and/or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years of experience in related field.
Preferred
- 3 years professional experience in audio engineering (studio and/or live sound environments.
- Rigging experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Preferred
- Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) Rigging Theatre Certification upon date of hire.

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
