CENTER FOR RURAL ENGAGEMENT (BL-CFRE-IUBLA)

The Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement improves the lives of Hoosiers through collaborative initiatives that discover and deploy scalable and flexible solutions to common challenges facing rural communities. Working in full-spectrum community innovation through research, community-engaged teaching and student service, the center builds vision, harnesses assets and cultivates sustainable leadership structures within the communities with which it engages to ensure long-term success.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Identifies, coordinates, monitors, and supports relationships with Indiana University (IU) faculty and staff engaged in Center for Rural Engagement (CRE) community initiatives. Creates and updates systems for tracking faculty and staff interest.
  • Directs the faculty side of the Sustaining Hoosier Communities program. Recruits, matches, and supports faculty in community engaged teaching projects.
  • Recruits, leads the selection, and directs the work of the CRE's Faculty Advisory Council.
  • Collaborates with others to connect faculty across the university by planning events such as the IU Statewide Community Engagement Institute and the Rural Indiana Faculty Tour.
  • Supports faculty, through existing programs, in conducting community-engaged research practices, including community-based participatory research and other methods.

General Responsibilities

  • Leads and implements large-scale advancement initiatives with key stakeholders and leaders in the public and private sector.
  • Identifies potential opportunities and cultivates relationships engaging with relevant stakeholders to develop project scope.
  • Develops deep understanding of related issues, assets, and opportunities to formulate project outcomes in collaboration with unit leadership and partners. Stay currents on emerging needs.
  • Matches identified needs with university academic and operational experts as well as external assets and resources.
  • Manages budgets; may supervise staff in project operations.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact on project needs and priorities interacting with diverse constituencies.
  • Develops and maintains systems for selecting, tracking, and assessing projects and their outcomes and impact.
  • May provide guidance to lower-level Institutional Advancement Consultants.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 5 years experience in outreach, engagement, public relations, or related field.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Regular travel within the state and occasionally nationally for conferences is expected.

$99,000 annually
