Schedule: PRN (as needed), days vary, including weekends; shifts of 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM or 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM depending on vacancy and coverage needs

Position Overview:
The Consultant-Lactation II provides comprehensive infant feeding services to families through inpatient and outpatient channels. This role involves developing, marketing, and implementing lactation programs, increasing awareness, and creating educational materials tailored to diverse audiences. The Lactation Consultant applies clinical expertise in assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and family needs. The role collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to advance patient care, achieve outcomes, and improve operational efficiency, all while adhering to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert lactation consulting services to inpatient and outpatient families.
- Develop, implement, and promote lactation care plans and educational resources.
- Increase awareness of the lactation program through outreach and education initiatives.
- Conduct assessments, diagnoses, and outcome evaluations based on clinical expertise.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to advance patient care plans and improve outcomes.
- Participate in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and team collaboration to support optimal patient and family needs.
- Utilize evidence-based practices to improve operational workflows and patient satisfaction.
- Maintain compliance with professional standards, policies, and ethical guidelines.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Associates of Nursing (ASN) required.
- Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Active RN license in Indiana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license required.
- Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
- Additional advanced life support certifications may be required per department policies.
- Experience working with childbearing families or maternal health nursing preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnosis, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage resources effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and cultural competency.
