Job Description
At Bloomington Hospital L&D, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional care as an OB Level II Labor & Delivery unit, equipped with two OB operating suites and a Level III NICU. Our highly skilled and supportive team has access to a wealth of resources, ensuring the highest standards of patient care in both the operating room and labor unit. With an on-site Sterile Processing Department (SPD), we benefit from quick and efficient access to essential supplies and equipment, while having the added support of our main operating room team when needed. We’re one of the few facilities that provides 24/7 coverage with a Certified Surgical Technologist, without requiring mandatory on-call shifts—though the option is available for those who desire it. This is a full-time position working 3 12's from 6:30am - 7:00pm. Every third weekend is required as well as a holiday rotation.
Surgical Enhanced Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel. Trains colleagues on various skills and tasks. Acts as a resource or mentor to colleagues with less experience.
- Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
- Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA.
- Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
- Must be an expert in advanced technology within specialty service. Examples include lasers, robotics, navigational technology, Implantable Electronic Devices (Pacemakers, VADs, VNS), etc.
- Requires documentation of 19 Contact Hours of Continuing Education.
- Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
- Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
- Requires application and completion of selected documentation for review by each region's Surgical Technologist Steering Committee as well as an interview with the committee.
- Requires a minimum of 1 year OR experience in the Skilled Technologist role or relevant experience.
