The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana! Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the laboratories perform more than 19 million tests a year. In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country.

SHIFT: Full-Time Days

HOURS: M-F 8-4:30

The Laboratory Assistant I - Histology Prep, at Bloomington LAB, receives and accepts pathology specimens, Checks ID, tracking forms, requisitions and specimen containers, accession and properly label specimen containers.

  • Requires HS grad or GED Equivalent. Interest in science preferred.

  • Ability to pay strong attention to detail required.

  • Maintain safe work practices established by regulatory agencies, Hospital, Environmental Health & Safety, Departmental procedures, and policies and utilize proper PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Provide a high level of customer service to the department’s clients including staff at all levels as well as other departments within the institution.
  • Interpersonal skills (verbal and written); must be able to interact with Pathologists, Clinicians, Histotechs, and other staff related to specimen description and instructions.
  • Requires proven understanding of computers.

  • Requires telephone skills

  • Skills to maintain cooperative working relationships within a confined work area.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload.
  • Discard medical and chemical waste following established protocols/procedure.
