Job Title: Specialist – Peer Recovery Coach
Location: Bloomington Hospital | Moms Heal Together
Position Type: Full-Time Day
Position Overview:
The Peer Recovery Coach is a key member of the Moms Heal Together team, supporting pregnant and postpartum individuals impacted by current or past substance use from pregnancy through two years postpartum. Drawing on personal lived experience and recovery principles, this role builds trusting relationships and offers encouragement, advocacy, and resource navigation that convey strength and hope. Working alongside clinical providers, therapists, nurses, and community partners, the Peer Recovery Coach helps participants engage in treatment and reach their goals for sobriety, parenting, health, and overall well-being. The role serves Moms Heal Together clinics in Paoli, Bloomfield, and Bedford, with mileage reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with pregnant and postpartum participants impacted by current or past substance use, drawing on lived experience and recovery principles.
  • Share personal recovery experience intentionally to convey strength and hope.
  • Provide recovery-focused support, encouragement, and advocacy from pregnancy through two years postpartum.
  • Promote participant engagement in treatment and recovery services, following up regularly to check in and encourage progress.
  • Help participants set and work toward personal goals related to sobriety, parenting, health, and overall well-being.
  • Connect participants with community resources and help them navigate available services.
  • Collaborate with clinical providers, therapists, nurses, and community partners to develop action plans and deliver person-centered, trauma-informed care.
  • Participate in the admission process when appropriate and recommend alternative treatment modalities or facilities when a participant is not appropriate for admission.
  • Travel to Moms Heal Together clinics in Paoli, Bloomfield, and Bedford as needed (mileage reimbursed).
Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Completed Addiction Peer Recovery Coach training through the Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ICAADA), or certification as a Certified Peer Support Professional through the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA).
  • Certification in Peer Recovery Services within six months of hire.
  • Lived experience with substance use recovery and the ability to use that experience to support others.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team.
  • Willingness to commute to clinics in Paoli, Bloomfield, and Bedford.
Preferred
  • Undergraduate degree in Behavioral Health or Addictions.
  • At least one (1) year as a person in long-term recovery from substance use.
  • Experience with academic institutions and academic medical centers.
