Tutor - Math
Ivy Tech Community College
This position would be for 20 hrs per week, 10am-4pm Monday-Thursdays. Tutors make $16.25 per hour.
Interested applicants should apply as soon as possible to be considered for the fall semester. Interviews will happen on a rolling basis until filled.
General Purpose and Scope of the position: Assists students by providing individual and small group tutoring on campus, in the Learning Commons and virtually as needed. Contributes to providing a professional, helpful, welcoming atmosphere and maintains a positive attitude for all visitors to the Learning Commons.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Provide academic support for students currently enrolled in various classes. Tutors may specialize in one subject or may tutor in multiple areas such as math and physics.
2. Assist students with college online services (MyIvy, IvyLearn; aka Canvas).
3. Assist students in person in the Learning Commons and through virtual learning systems (Zoom).
4. Assist students individually; facilitate study groups for students and provide group instruction.
5. Complete online tutor training course and all Workday courses as required, attend staff meetings, and pursue professional development opportunities.
6. Afternoons and evenings may be required.
7. All other duties as assigned, including providing back-up support for library services, consistent with commonly accepted practices
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred OR
- Associate’s degree with extensive knowledge of designated subject area essential.
- Prior tutoring experience preferred.
- Experience and knowledge of computer software (including all Microsoft products) and virtual learning systems (Zoom, etc.) required.
- Must be a team player with good communication skills, customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
