Work Hours: Monday through Thursday 7AM-4PM

Sick Time: 3.7 hours each pay (paid every two weeks).

BASIC FUNCTION AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and overall upkeep of Ivy Tech Community College – Bloomington’s campus buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds. This full-time position is responsible for performing a wide range of tasks including responding to maintenance work orders, conducting routine and preventative maintenance, assisting with event setups, operating mechanical and HVAC systems, and supporting minor construction projects. In addition to maintenance responsibilities, this role includes custodial duties to help ensure campus spaces remain clean, safe, and welcoming for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Maintenance Technician reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate and maintain assigned mechanical, custodial, and HVAC equipment.
• Perform assigned work orders in a timely manner and update the online work order system.
• Participate in routine preventative maintenance and inspections.
• Assist supervisor with safety inspections and maintain documentation.
• Respond to building system and intrusion alarms; alert appropriate personnel as needed.
• Report facility deficiencies and recommend improvements to processes and practices.
• Perform seasonal maintenance tasks including snow removal, landscaping, and grounds upkeep.
• Maintain combustion engine-driven equipment and small tools.
• Load, unload, and deliver equipment and supplies across campus.
• Move furniture and equipment; assist with office setups and event arrangements.
• Assist in minor construction projects such as painting, drywall, and flooring.
• Install copper water lines, drain lines, plumbing fixtures, and pneumatic systems.
• Install and maintain conduit, electrical wiring, outlets, switches, and related systems.
• Understand and apply proper safety procedures including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) compliance.
• Operate building automation systems and maintain proper documentation.
• Assist in maintaining inventory and ordering approved maintenance supplies.
• Respond to campus emergencies and be available for off-shift hours including evenings and weekends.
• Clean and maintain assigned campus areas including restrooms, classrooms, common areas, and offices.
• Empty trash, clean whiteboards, dust, mop, vacuum, and sanitize surfaces.
• Strip, wax, and buff floors as needed.
• Open and secure campus buildings as required.

• Assist faculty, staff, and students with safety, facilities, or directional concerns in a helpful and courteous manner.

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Previous experience in facilities cleaning and floor maintenance.
• Experience in general building maintenance and basic trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, carpentry).
• Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate degree or post-secondary education in a relevant field.
• Familiarity with building automation systems.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and proper lockout/tagout procedures.
