ITD – Manual MachinistJob OverviewThe Manual Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of conventional machine tools to produce precision parts that meet customer specifications. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently on a wide range of machining projects.Machinists interpret blueprints and technical drawings, select appropriate materials, plan machining processes, and perform all necessary operations to complete parts accurately and efficiently. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to quality workmanship.Key Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and part specificationsSelect materials and determine machining methods and sequencesSet up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, and other shop equipmentPerform precision machining to tight tolerances (up to .0001”)Install and secure vises, fixtures, jigs, and workpieces using hoists as neededOperate machine controls to remove material according to specificationsUse precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify accuracyMonitor machine operation, including lubrication levels, and perform basic maintenanceMaintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift and at shift endIdentify different types of metals and materials used in machiningInterpret CAD drawings and create basic part sketches when needed Lathe Operations Workholding and setup, including 4-jaw chuck operationTool selection, sharpening, and setupDetermine cutting speeds and feed ratesPerform precision turning and threading operations Milling Operations Setup and operation of mills, attachments, cutters, and tool holdersCalculate and apply appropriate RPMs and feed ratesPerform operations including: Squaring and surfacing partsMilling grooves and slotsDrilling, tapping, and boringUsing dividing/indexing headsMachining angles and complex features Qualifications Prior experience operating manual lathes and/or milling machines preferred but not requiredProficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, T-gauges)Ability to operate shop equipment such as band saws, bench sanders, and disc sandersBasic knowledge of math, geometry, and trigonometryAbility to read blueprints and technical drawingsStrong attention to detail and commitment to quality Physical Requirements Ability to lift, push, pull, and move materials up to 50 lbs.Ability to stand and/or walk for 8–10-hour shiftsFrequent use of hands and tools for extended periods Activity Level: Standing: ContinuousWalking: ContinuousSitting: OccasionalStooping: OccasionalOverhead reaching: Occasional Schedule Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PMOvertime available Compensation & Benefits Starting $22.00 + more based on experiencePerformance reviews within the first two years with opportunities for wage increasesMedical, dental, vision, and prescription coverageFlexible Spending Accounts (FSA)PTO and 10 paid holidays after 30 daysQuarterly bonus after 6 monthsClimate-controlled work environment24/7 onsite fitness center and medical clinicOnsite Spanish translator available401(k) with company matchEmployee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) $1,515.93 per share!Paid training and development opportunities About JASPERJASPER has been remanufacturing quality products since 1942 and is now the nation’s largest remanufacturer of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, axle assemblies, and more.
