Product Development - Product Design EngineerLocation: 815 Wernsing Rd, Jasper, IN 47546, USASchedule: Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Job Summary: The Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining prints for parts, tools, and equipment. They will work closely with suppliers and vendors to sign off on external prints. They will run and write CMM programs for reverse engineering and inspection. They need a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, GD&T, dimensional inspection, CMM operation, reverse engineering, and supplier print requirements. They will work closely with New Product Development, Sourcing, 3D Printing, Quality, and ITD to ensure accurate, manufacturable, and efficient solutions. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop engine components, tooling, dies, fixtures, gauges, and manufacturing equipment.Develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using Solidworks or Creo.Operate and utilize Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) for dimensional inspection, product validation, and reverse engineering.Develop CMM inspection programs and measurement strategies as required.Reverse engineer existing components and tooling using CMM and other precision measurement equipment.Apply GD&T and engineering principles to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and inspectable.Design components with consideration for material selection, manufacturing processes, tolerances, cost, durability, and performance.Support and maintain print revisions, engineering changes, and continuous improvement activities.Work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve design and production issues.Perform design reviews and provide technical recommendations based on engineering requirements and manufacturing capabilities.Review and approve supplier engineering drawings, models, and manufacturing documentation.Ensure supplier prints accurately reflect engineering requirements, specifications, GD&T, materials, and critical characteristics.Identify discrepancies between supplier documentation and internal engineering requirements. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; equivalent technical experience may be considered.Experience with mechanical design and engineering drawing development.Strong understanding of GD&T and dimensional tolerancing.Hands-on experience with CMM inspection and dimensional metrology.Experience interpreting CMM inspection reports and measurement data.Experience with CAD modeling and detailed engineering drawings.Strong understanding of machining and manufacturing processes.Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Ability to work independently and take ownership of engineering projects.Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
