Job Description
The Metrology Engineer will support the Navy’s AN/SPY-1 Organic Sustainment Capability Prototype OTA by providing precision measurement expertise for radar subsystem prototyping and sustainment. This role is essential to ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and compliance of measurements used in design, testing, and lifecycle sustainment of AN/SPY-1 radars. The engineer will define metrology strategies, develop calibration procedures, and ensure integration of measurement requirements across antenna, transmitter, and signal processor subsystems.

This role is essential to ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and compliance of measurements used in design, testing, and lifecycle sustainment of AN/SPY-1 radars. The engineer will define metrology strategies, develop calibration procedures, and ensure integration of measurement requirements across antenna, transmitter, and signal processor subsystems.
Key Responsibilities
- Measurement and Calibration Strategy
- Develop and document metrology processes and calibration plans to support radar prototyping and sustainment.
- Establish measurement standards, uncertainty budgets, and traceability to national/international standards.
- Ensure test and measurement equipment is properly calibrated and certified to Navy/DoD requirements.
- Support to Prototyping and Testing
- Define measurement requirements for conceptual and detailed test plans across SPY-1 radar subsystems.
- Provide precision measurement support for antenna alignment, transmitter performance, and signal processor diagnostics.
- Collaborate with test engineers to validate prototype performance against baseline radar requirements.
- Data Analysis and Documentation
- Analyze measurement data to identify trends, tolerances, and areas of risk.
- Produce metrology reports, calibration records, and technical documentation in support of Phase 1 conceptual deliverables.
- Provide inputs to design reviews, program reviews, and sustainment planning documents.
- Integration and IPT Participation
- Participate in Kratos-led technical IPTs to represent metrology and calibration interests.
- Track and complete assigned deliverables in the program action tracker.
- Ensure alignment of metrology processes with overall sustainment and lifecycle readiness objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Metrology Engineering (or equivalent military/industry training).
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in precision measurement, calibration, or metrology engineering.
- Proficiency in measurement instrumentation, standards, and uncertainty analysis.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-45662, ANSI/NCSL Z540, ISO/IEC 17025, or similar metrology standards.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Active DoD Secret (with ability to obtain Top Secret if required)
- Experience supporting AN/SPY-1, AEGIS, or other complex radar or electronic warfare systems.
- Knowledge of antenna alignment, RF measurement systems, and high-power transmitter calibration.
- Familiarity with NSWC Crane test facilities, Navy calibration laboratories, or DoD depot environments.
- Prior experience in prototyping or reverse engineering programs.
Success in this role will be measured by:
- Accuracy and reliability of metrology processes and calibration data.
- Timely delivery of metrology reports and inputs to program milestones.
- Effective support to conceptual design and test planning in Phase 1.
- Demonstrated contribution to long-term readiness goals of AN/SPY-1 sustainment.
