Searching for an ship and shipyard designer with specific experience conducting finite element model for whole-ship model, ship-lift, docking, ship and the ship support system, this position is remote with occasional travel.

In this role, you will serve as our principal Ship and Shipyard Engineering providing Senior level recommendations and advice to Irving Shipbuilding Industries.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Independent technical analysis and oversight of three separate vendor models in order to combine them into a single analysis for RCD ship docking, movement, and launch
  • Oversee dynamic analysis and data collection for RCD launch.
  • Develop independent finite element model for RCD whole-ship model, ship-lift, docking, ship and the ship support system. This model will be exercised to demonstrate:
  • the safety of the combined system when grounded on the support grid, transiting, and during ship launch.
  • ship and support system transiting from the land level, over several obstacles in order to demonstrate structural adequacy.
  • Analyze the characterization of RCD wood species and condition of blocks available for ship support.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with executive leadership (internally or client) regarding matters of significant importance to the organization/project. Works to convince others to accept area’s view/current practices and agree/accept new concepts, practices and approaches.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a minimum of 20 years of ship and shipyard design experience with specific familiarity with unique shipbuilding and large-scale ship repair and dynamic analysis for ship launch

Specific skills described below:

  • Ship docking analysis,
  • Dock repair analysis, and
  • DDGX Ship Design:
  • Ship construction and repair structural design analysis
  • DDG-1000 structure and foundations

General Skills:

  • Active Secret clearance
  • Significant knowledge of ship design and construction
  • Significant knowledge of ship yard docking design and analysis
  • Excellent communicator
  • Executive Level Briefer
  • Excellent Organizational skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Microsoft Project Professional
  • Finite Element Modeling (FEM)

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Master’s degree in engineering
  • PHD in Engineering (preferred)
