The Defense Sector at Leidos is seeking a Communications Coordinator to join a high-performing communications team to help drive social engagement and strategy across internal and external audiences for a subcomponent of the Department of Health and Human Services. The ideal candidate will have experience developing cross-platform communications packages, including press releases, web content, social media, and video content to inform and engage the public on scientific topics.

As a member of a highly collaborative communications team, the Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Strategic Communications Manager, internal customers, production colleagues, and subject matter experts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and clear communications packages
  • Develop content for distribution on social media platform
  • Monitor social media channels for sensitive issues
  • Maintain the social media calendar
  • Develop new and revised web content in collaboration with internal customers and subject matter experts
  • Manage clearance processes for the communications team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience or a Master’s degree with 1+ years of experience.
  • US citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • 2+ years of experience in external communications, social media, and digital engagement.
  • Proven experience managing social media campaigns on channels such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Experience with creating web content.
  • Ability to analyze and draw insights from social media metrics and have a deep understanding of social algorithms to optimize the channels.
  • Proficient in social media management software such as Hootsuite or similar.
  • Collaborative working style.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scientific, biomedical, or public health knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Success with being a team player.
  • Self-starter, with ability to manage tasks and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.

While this job is fully remote, occasional travel to government office in Washington, DC may be required. Slight preference for candidates in the greater DC metro area who could visit the customer site more often.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $52,000.00 - $94,000.00
