The UNIX/LINUX System Engineer - Senior provides senior engineering and operational leadership for UNIX/Linux infrastructure under the SEC ISS contract. This role is responsible for secure, reliable, and compliant operation of Red Hat Linux-based systems across virtualized, data center, cloud-connected, and HALSI high-performance computing environments (NYRO, SEC HQ/DC, and D1 Manassas) that support SEC OIT services. The engineer leads incident response, advanced troubleshooting, and service restoration activities to maintain operational continuity and SLA performance. This position aligns with HALSI UNIX/Linux support scope (PWS 3.6.1) and supports continuous improvement of UNIX/Linux platform operations.
Responsibilities:
Perform system configuration, account administration, OS maintenance, and lifecycle support for physical and virtual servers.
Ensure platform availability and operational readiness across enterprise infrastructure environments.
Operate primarily in virtualized environments supporting SEC mission operations.
Lead administration, design, and implementation of RHEL server-based solutions aligned to SEC standards.
Provide technical leadership to the UNIX/Linux server team and manage operational priorities.
Build and maintain server solutions in virtualized environments and support integration with enterprise services.
Support onboarding and operationalization of new UNIX/Linux capabilities, including documentation and SOP/runbook updates.
Own incident management activities for UNIX/Linux infrastructure, including triage, escalation, and resolution.
Perform advanced troubleshooting of complex system issues across production and non-production environments.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to reduce recurrence and improve reliability.
Partner with enterprise operations stakeholders to restore service quickly and minimize mission impact.
Team Leadership, Security, and Compliance
Coordinate technical execution and service delivery for the UNIX/Linux server team.
Oversee operational activities to maintain stable and secure UNIX/Linux services.
Support monitoring, patching, and vulnerability remediation in accordance with contract and operational requirements.
Produce and communicate operational status, risk, and performance metrics for supported UNIX/Linux services.
Manage day-to-day administration of UNIX/Linux server infrastructure with primary focus on RHEL.
May require participation in on-call or surge support activities depending on operational needs.
Basic Qualifications
This position is restricted to U.S. citizens only. Applicants must not hold dual citizenship with any other country to be eligible for work under this contract
Ability to obtain and maintain SEC Public Trust (or higher, if required).
Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience administering and managing servers/systems specializing in UNIX/Linux (additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree).
Must possess a RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or equivalent.
Demonstrated experience leading UNIX/Linux server operations, incident management, and advanced troubleshooting in virtualized environments.
UNIX/Linux system administration with specialization in Red Hat Linux.
Day-to-day management of UNIX/Linux server infrastructure.
Leadership of UNIX/Linux server team activities across administration, design, and implementation.
Incident management and advanced troubleshooting of complex UNIX/Linux system issues.
Operations in primarily virtualized environments.
Preferred Qualifications
RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) or higher Red Hat specialization.
Experience supporting high-performance or analytics-focused UNIX/Linux environments.
Experience with OpenShift/Kubernetes platforms and Linux workload modernization.
Experience supporting hybrid cloud server environments in AWS and/or Azure.
ITIL 4 Foundation (or equivalent) with demonstrated SLA/operations reporting experience.
Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation.
VMware Certified Professional (VCP).

Pay Range:
Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
