MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Radio Frequency (RF) Expert to join our team working in California, MD. This is a remote position.
The RF Expert will serve as the senior technical authority for Land Mobile Radio (LMR) engineering efforts supporting DoD and public safety mission environments. This role supports the full lifecycle of complex RF communication systems, including requirements development, system architecture, engineering design, integration, testing, performance validation, modernization, and sustainment, across fixed-site, mobile, in-building, and tactical platforms.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Serve as the senior RF/LMR Technical Lead, providing direct advisory support to government project managers and senior leadership while overseeing large-scale, multi-site system deployments and integration efforts
Lead the design, engineering, optimization, and lifecycle support of APCO P25 Phase I and Phase II trunked and conventional LMR systems, including simulcast architectures utilizing GPS-disciplined timing and synchronization
Engineer, implement, and troubleshoot Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDA), RF-over-fiber systems, repeaters, combiners, multicouplers, filters, duplexers, antenna systems, and transmission lines to meet defined performance specifications
Provide multi-band engineering support across VHF, UHF, 700/800 MHz Line-of-Sight (LoS), and High Frequency (HF) Beyond Line-of-Sight (BLoS) communication systems
Conduct RF propagation modeling, predictive coverage analysis, link budget development, drive testing, site surveys, in-building validation, and RF noise floor analysis to ensure system reliability and performance compliance
Develop and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and formal performance verification procedures with measurable acceptance criteria
Support spectrum planning, frequency coordination, and regulatory compliance in accordance with FCC, NTIA, and DoD policies
Develop technical requirements documentation, RFP specifications, engineering evaluation reports, white papers, SOPs, interoperability documentation, and system performance reports while evaluating vendor proposals for compliance and survivability
Identify technical and programmatic risks, provide mitigation strategies, develop subscriber programming templates and encryption configurations, and mentor junior engineers through structured RF and LMR technical instruction
Travel up to 20% of the time
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent education
20+ years of progressive experience in RF engineering and LMR systems
Experience serving as Technical Lead or RF/LMR SME supporting government programs
Demonstrated expertise in APCO P25 Phase I and Phase II trunked and conventional system architectures
Hands-on familiarity with RF diagnostic equipment including spectrum analyzers, service monitors, and network analyzers
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, RF engineering, telecommunications engineering, or related technical field
Advanced technical training in electronics, RF systems, or telecommunications engineering
Clearance Requirements:
Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess a current or United States Government Secret security clearance.
Physical Requirements:
The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which may involve delivering presentations.
The projected compensation range for this position is $137,100.00-$244,100.00. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
