Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician has responsibility for coordinating and performing day to day activities related to the Medication Assistance Program (MAP), a program designed to assist patients of Deaconess Health System and the community to obtain needed medications through the prescription assistance program of pharmaceutical companies and other charitable organizations. Responsibilities also include providing information and referral services to clients and Deaconess Health System regarding other available community resources.
Pharmacy Services and Technology
The Pharmacy provides 24/365 access to pharmacist and pharmacy services. Technology plays an important role in the distribution process within Deaconess. The department strives to provide the most up-to-date equipment to ensure patient and staff safety. Medication distribution uses a combination of centralized and decentralized automation, bar code medication administration and smart pump technology. Patient information is managed through EPIC for both in and outpatients to create a complete medical record. The Pharmacy supports a decentralized patient-centered, integrated model.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as liaison between patients and physicians' offices regarding medication assistance programs.
- Oversees completion of enrollment forms and follows up on medications requests.
- Maintain EMR data and medication lists related to MAP
- Ensures that approved patients are re-enrolled as appropriate
- Maintains accounts for MAP patients enrolled in foundations, including billing foundation on their behalf as indicated.
- Assists in training of office staff and other personnel regarding MAP.
- Assists in data collection and outcome evaluation for MAP.
- Maintains understanding of the manufacturer’s drug programs and foundations available to qualified MAP clients.
- Keeps current on health-related community agencies/resources to refer MAP patients and families as needed.
- Assists Ambulatory Pharmacy Manager and lead pharmacist with budget and other financial activities related to MAP.
- Assists in development and implementation of marketing plans for the promotion of MAP to clients, hospital staff and community.
Education and Experience
- Education and/or Experience: High School diploma.
- Pharmacy technician experience preferred
- Minimum of 6 months previous experience in customer service, health care clinical environment and/or business related field preferred.
- Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
- Must be licensed as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician In Training in the applicable state of practice. New hires/new transfers may start work in the position with an Indiana Pharmacy Technician pending application, but must obtain their Indiana Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician in Training within 30 days of new hire/transfer.
- Requires Certified Pharmacy Technician designation within one year of employment.
