Position Summary

Paragon Force, Inc. is seeking a Chemist I to support DoD environmental and laboratory operations. This entry-level professional position is ideal for a chemist with approximately three years of experience who is eager to apply scientific principles to environmental analysis, compliance activities, and technical support efforts.

The Chemist I will perform laboratory and field-related chemical analyses, assist with environmental investigations, support regulatory compliance efforts, and contribute to technical reporting and data interpretation. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of senior scientists and project managers while supporting mission-critical environmental programs for federal customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical analyses of environmental samples including soil, water, sediment, air, and hazardous materials.
  • Perform laboratory testing using established analytical methods and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with environmental monitoring, sampling, and site assessment activities.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper calibration, operation, and documentation.
  • Review and validate analytical data for completeness, accuracy, and quality control requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries, and data packages for customer review.
  • Support environmental compliance initiatives related to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Assist with hazardous waste characterization and management activities.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, records, and chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Follow all laboratory safety requirements, environmental regulations, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical support to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support customer audits, inspections, and program reviews as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in chemistry, environmental laboratory operations, analytical testing, or a related scientific field.
  • Ability to obtain and hold an active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory practices, analytical techniques, and chemical safety procedures.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strong technical writing and data analysis skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or federal government programs.
  • Familiarity with EPA analytical methods and environmental sampling procedures.
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and waste management requirements.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in laboratory, industrial, and field environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform sample collection activities as needed.
  • Ability to travel occasionally in support of customer requirements.
