Position Summary

Paragon Force, Inc. is seeking a Scientist I to support DoD environmental programs. This junior-level position applies scientific principles and analytical methods to support environmental investigations, research initiatives, compliance activities, laboratory operations, and field studies.

The Scientist I will assist in collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting scientific data related to environmental, biological, chemical, physical, and ecological systems. The successful candidate will support senior scientists, engineers, and project managers in evaluating environmental conditions, conducting technical studies, and developing recommendations that support environmental stewardship and mission objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct scientific analyses and technical evaluations involving environmental, biological, chemical, physical, and ecological systems.
  • Collect, review, analyze, and interpret scientific data obtained from field investigations, laboratory testing, and environmental monitoring activities.
  • Support environmental sampling and analysis of air, water, soil, sediment, hazardous materials, and other environmental media.
  • Assist with environmental assessments, compliance evaluations, and scientific studies.
  • Prepare technical reports, data summaries, scientific findings, and supporting documentation for customer review.
  • Perform laboratory and field activities in accordance with approved procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Assist with research involving environmental contaminants, pollutant behavior, natural resources, ecological systems, and physical science applications.
  • Evaluate environmental conditions and assist in identifying potential risks, impacts, and corrective actions.
  • Support scientific investigations related to chemistry, environmental science, biology, materials science, geology, physics, and related disciplines.
  • Maintain accurate records, field notes, laboratory documentation, and data management systems.
  • Assist with quality assurance and quality control activities to ensure data accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, audits, and field investigations as required.
  • Collaborate with scientists, chemists, engineers, environmental professionals, and government personnel to support project objectives.
  • Follow all applicable environmental regulations, safety requirements, security procedures, and company policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Ecology, Geology, Physics, Physical Science, Life Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in life sciences, physical sciences, environmental sciences, laboratory operations, scientific research, or related technical fields.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Knowledge of scientific research methods, data collection techniques, and analytical procedures.
  • Experience collecting, organizing, and interpreting scientific data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to seven (3–7) years of professional experience in life sciences, physical sciences, environmental sciences, laboratory operations, or scientific research.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or federal government programs.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance requirements, environmental restoration activities, or natural resource management programs.
  • Experience with environmental sampling methodologies, laboratory procedures, and scientific data analysis.
  • Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, DoD, and other applicable environmental regulations.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in office, laboratory, industrial, and outdoor field environments.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection when required.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to travel occasionally in support of project and customer requirements.
