Position Summary

Paragon Force, Inc. is seeking a Scientist II to support DoD environmental programs. This position serves as a mid-level scientific professional responsible for conducting research, analysis, technical evaluations, and environmental assessments in support of military and federal environmental initiatives.

The Scientist II applies principles of life sciences and physical sciences to evaluate environmental conditions, analyze scientific data, assess potential environmental impacts, and support regulatory compliance efforts. The successful candidate will contribute technical expertise to environmental investigations, laboratory analyses, environmental monitoring programs, and scientific studies while supporting project objectives and customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct scientific investigations, research studies, and technical analyses related to environmental, biological, chemical, physical, and ecological systems.
  • Collect, evaluate, and interpret environmental data from air, water, soil, sediment, hazardous materials, and other environmental sources.
  • Support environmental monitoring, sampling, remediation, restoration, and compliance programs.
  • Perform scientific evaluations and prepare technical reports, findings, recommendations, and supporting documentation.
  • Analyze laboratory and field data using established scientific methods and quality assurance procedures.
  • Support studies involving environmental impacts, pollution prevention, hazardous materials, waste management, and natural resource conservation.
  • Assist with identifying environmental risks and recommending corrective actions or mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate scientific and technical information to support environmental planning, regulatory compliance, and operational decision-making.
  • Support investigations involving chemical properties, materials performance, environmental contaminants, and pollutant behavior.
  • Participate in environmental site assessments, inspections, audits, and field investigations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, chemists, environmental specialists, project managers, and government personnel to achieve project objectives.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and Department of Defense environmental regulations.
  • Prepare presentations, briefings, technical correspondence, and scientific reports for customers and project stakeholders.
  • Support quality assurance, quality control, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Ecology, Geology, Physics, or a closely related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in life sciences, physical sciences, environmental sciences, laboratory operations, scientific research, or related technical fields.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Strong understanding of scientific research methods, data collection techniques, and analytical procedures.
  • Experience evaluating and interpreting scientific, environmental, and technical data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate scientific findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, federal government, or environmental services contracts.
  • Experience with environmental compliance programs, environmental restoration, natural resource management, or hazardous waste operations.
  • Familiarity with EPA, OSHA, DoD, and other applicable environmental regulations.
  • Experience supporting laboratory operations, environmental monitoring programs, or field investigations.
  • Knowledge of environmental sampling methodologies and scientific data management systems.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in office, laboratory, industrial, and field environments.
  • Ability to travel occasionally in support of customer and project requirements.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection when necessary.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather and environmental conditions.
