Position Summary

Paragon Force, Inc. is seeking a Hazardous Waste/Material Handler I to support DoD environmental operations. This entry-level position assists with hazardous waste management, environmental remediation activities, spill response, and compliance operations in support of military installations and environmental programs.

The Hazardous Waste/Material Handler I works under the supervision of senior environmental personnel and follows established procedures for the collection, handling, transportation, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and hazardous waste. The position supports environmental remediation projects and helps ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and Department of Defense environmental regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in determining and implementing operational plans for hazardous waste abatement and remediation projects.
  • Support environmental remediation activities, including removal, separation, stabilization, neutralization, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Collect, identify, package, label, transport, and store hazardous waste in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Handle hazardous materials and waste streams including, but not limited to, acids, caustics, paints, solvents, asbestos-containing materials, petroleum products, and other regulated substances.
  • Assist with waste accumulation area inspections and hazardous material storage management.
  • Respond to hazardous material spills and releases by supporting containment, cleanup, and recovery efforts.
  • Operate equipment and utilize materials necessary to control and remediate spills and environmental incidents.
  • Prepare and maintain waste tracking documentation, manifests, inventory records, inspection reports, and related environmental records.
  • Conduct routine inspections of hazardous waste storage areas, containers, and equipment.
  • Support environmental compliance activities and ensure adherence to established environmental management procedures.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, transporting, and staging hazardous materials and waste containers.
  • Follow all applicable environmental, health, safety, security, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Participate in required environmental, safety, and hazardous materials training programs.
  • Perform general environmental support duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Zero (0) to three (3) years of experience in hazardous waste management, environmental services, material handling, industrial operations, remediation, or a related field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, work instructions, and environmental regulations.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting environmental remediation, hazardous waste operations, or spill response activities.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or federal government environmental programs.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Familiarity with EPA, OSHA, RCRA, DOT, and hazardous waste management regulations.
  • Experience handling regulated materials and waste streams.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators and chemical protective clothing.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental and weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform duties in industrial facilities, warehouses, laboratories, military installations, and field environments.
