The Assistant Dean will provide support to Purdue University Global’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Job Summary:

The Assistant Dean, in collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean, provides strategic leadership and promotes excellence in all phases of the School’s activities. The Assistant Dean, in partnership with the Academic Chairs, supports faculty growth and development in teaching, scholarship, and professional activities while ensuring the School maintains accreditation through high academic standards.

What to expect in this role:

Leadership and Faculty Development:

  • Develop a strong leadership team of Academic Chairs, Assistant Chairs, and staff members to ensure expeditious course scheduling, optimum use of faculty, and resolution of administrative issues.
  • Coordinate with Faculty Operations and Human Resources to ensure all Chairs, faculty and other direct reports understand job expectations, receive annual written performance appraisals, as well as performance feedback throughout the year, and use of professional development plans. Metrics include but are not limited to the use of professional development funds, percentage of on-time performance appraisals, and adherence to remediation procedures.
  • Ensure the recruitment and development of qualified faculty. Metrics include but are not limited to the percentage of faculty who are academically and/or professional qualified (including scholarly or professional research and publishing within their field of expertise), student achievement of course outcomes, student success rates, and student satisfaction ratings.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Dean of Curriculum to ensure Chairs and faculty are trained on development and deployment of degree plans including the designation of appropriate Course Leads. Metrics include but are not limited to assessment results of Course Measures.

Academic Growth & Operational Efficiency:

  • Develop strategies and methods to grow the associate programs as well as improve the conversion rate of associate students into the bachelor degree programs.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the academic team and the University as a whole. Assessment includes positive, collaborative working relationships with peers and external departments as well as a record of accomplishment with projects completed and/or committee service.
  • Ensure the timely resolution of escalations and appeals while maintaining the best interest of the common stakeholders within the University policy guidelines.
  • Contribute to the annual budget process and manage daily operations to remain within budgetary constraints and improve operating margins. Metrics include but are not limited to class size, cost per section, enrollment growth, retention, quality of instruction and quality of faculty.
  • Represent the School at meetings of various groups and organizations.
  • Additional projects and duties as assigned by the Dean.

Experience:

  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited university required. Doctoral degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years related experience.
  • Experience in leadership (particularly remote employees), administration (particularly in an online environment), budget management, accreditation and higher education.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.

What we're looking for:

  • Demonstrated leadership with a proven ability to train, supervise, motivate, and evaluate employees/staff/faculty.
  • Capable of building strong working relationships across teams, departments and Schools.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office suite software, such as MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint, as well as Google applications such as Gmail, Google Sites, Chat and Meet.
  • Knowledge of academic policies, curriculum development, and educational trends.
  • Verified experience with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements; specifically, writing programmatic accreditation self- study reports, maintaining ongoing reports, organizing site visits, and providing institutional data as requested by the accreditors.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, balance competing demands for time, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Effective analytical skills with the ability to assess situations, resolve issues or make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style and method to suit different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a professional demeanor with people at all levels within the organization
