Job Description

Description

SAIC is looking for a skilled and hands-on VSWR Technician to join our radar program team. The chosen candidate will support the testing, maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of advanced radar systems, focusing on Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) measurements and optimizing RF system performance. This is a technician-level position that requires expertise in RF instrumentation and practical, on-the-ground technical skills.

As a member of our team, the selected candidate will be responsible for equipment setup, integration, and ensuring radar systems meet performance standards through detailed testing and maintenance.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine VSWR measurements to ensure proper impedance matching for antennas, waveguides, and RF transmission lines.
  • Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot RF components and systems, including cables, connectors, waveguides, and radar subsystems.
  • Operate and maintain RF test and measurement equipment (e.g., network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, signal generators).
  • Assist in the assembly, disassembly, and configuration of radar test setups, including RF test benches and field deployments.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of RF systems and test equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and internal protocols.
  • Identify and replace faulty components such as connectors and cables, ensuring all repairs meet quality control standards.
  • Record and document test results, maintenance logs, and technical findings in a clear, detailed manner for submission to engineering or management.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform hands-on work, including lifting equipment up to 50 lbs, routing cables, and climbing ladders to access hardware for installation or repair.
  • Willingness to occasionally work outdoors or in enclosed environments (e.g., RF test chambers or anechoic chambers) as needed for testing setups.
  • Flexible to support on-site testing and deployments, including potential travel to remote client locations.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with vocational/technical training in electronics or RF systems. Associate degree in a technical field (e.g., Electronics Technology) is preferred.
  • 2+ years of hands-on technical experience working with RF systems, including impedance measurements and VSWR mitigation.
  • Familiarity with RF systems and components such as antennas, waveguides, coaxial connectors, and amplifiers.
  • Practical experience with tools and instruments such as hand tools, test equipment (network analyzers, spectrum analyzers), and RF calibration tools.
  • Understanding of basic RF concepts like signal attenuation, power reflection, impedance mismatch, and transmitter-receiver alignments.
  • Ability to interpret technical diagrams, wiring instructions, and RF system schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to follow technical procedures and safety protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in team settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with radar systems or RF testing in military, aerospace, or telecommunications environments.
  • Experience conducting on-site installation and field maintenance for antenna or radar systems.
  • An active Secret U.S. Security Clearance (Interim Secret required to start).
  • Certifications in RF technology, electronics, or related fields are highly desirable (e.g., FCC Technician License, Soldering Certification, etc.).
  • Knowledge of military standards and testing protocols related to RF or radar systems.
