Job Description

Description

SAIC is seeking an Engineer with expertise and experience in Hypersonic & Missile Systems to support the Multi-Service Advanced Capabilities Hypersonic Test Bed (MACH-TB) program at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division (NSWC Crane) in Crane, Indiana. The MACH-TB program is a multi-service initiative focused on the development, integration, and flight testing of hypersonic weapon systems and enabling technologies.

In this role, the candidate will serve as hypersonic and missile systems domain subject matter expert (SME) to fellow Mission Systems Engineers and provide mission engineering support across the full systems engineering lifecycle, applying MBSE methodologies and tools to support hypersonic test bed development, integration, and test activities. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background in Hypersonic Systems, Missile Systems or Hypersonic/Missile System flight testing. Additional experiment in systems engineering, mission analysis, and model-based systems engineer (MBSE) approaches within a defense acquisition, advanced technology development or flight test environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mission engineering support to the MACH-TB program, including mission concept development, mission thread analysis, and operational scenario definition
  • Develop, maintain, and execute system architecture models using MBSE tools and frameworks (e.g., SysML, Cameo Systems Modeler, DOORS, or equivalent)
  • Support the development and management of system requirements, including requirements decomposition, allocation, and traceability across subsystems and interfaces
  • Conduct trade studies and analysis of alternatives (AoA) to inform system design decisions and support program milestones
  • Support development and review of key systems engineering artifacts including Systems Engineering Plans (SEPs), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Concept of Operations (CONOPs), and Test & Evaluation Master Plans (TEMPs)
  • Collaborate with government program offices, prime contractors, and multi-service stakeholders to ensure technical alignment and mission success
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings (TIMs), design reviews (PDR/CDR), and program reviews both on-site and virtually
  • Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices to improve system definition, reduce ambiguity, and support digital engineering initiatives
  • Support integration, test, and evaluation (IT&E) planning and execution activities related to hypersonic test bed configurations
  • Identify and manage technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and support risk review boards
  • Provide technical input to program documentation, white papers, briefings, and reports for government customers and leadership
  • Primary Work Location: Hybrid – Telework authorized; candidate must be able to commute to Crane, IN (NSWC Crane) 1–2 days per week for on-site meetings, program reviews, and collaboration activities
  • Occasional travel may be required to support program reviews, test events, or customer meetings at other government or contractor facilities

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience.
  • Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; Interim Secret required to begin work
  • Experience supporting hypersonic weapons, missile systems, hypersonic/missile flight tests or advanced strike systems programs
  • Strong understanding of mission engineering principles, including mission thread development, operational concept definition, and mission-level requirements analysis
  • Familiarity with DoD systems engineering standards and frameworks (e.g., MIL-STD-881, DAG, SEBoK, DoDAF)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to brief technical content to diverse audiences including government customers and senior leadership.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid/remote environment while maintaining strong collaboration with on-site teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or related STEM field
  • Demonstrated experience with MBSE tools and methodologies (e.g., SysML, Cameo/MagicDraw, IBM DOORS, Rhapsody, or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of flight test planning and execution for advanced weapons systems
  • Experience with digital engineering initiatives and digital thread/digital twin concepts
  • Experience with multi-service or joint program offices (Army, Navy, Air Force coordination)
  • INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or equivalent certification
  • Experience supporting DoD acquisition programs across the systems engineering lifecycle (concept development through test and evaluation)
  • Familiarity with NSWC Crane operations, programs, or customer base
