Role Overview:

The individual in this Maintenance Repair position acts as a senior worker providing preventative maintenance services and repairs to equipment, machinery, buildings and grounds in a variety of trade areas. Candidate provides support to the operation and management of East Fork State Fish Hatchery and is critical to accomplish the goals set forth by the Division of Fish and Wildlife and Department of Natural Resources.

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Makes both routine and non-routine masonry, carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs and replacements.
  • Assists a skilled tradesperson on major projects, including installation of new plumbing or electrical equipment in an entire area or forming and pouring sidewalks, steps and ramps.
  • Acts as the team leader to lower-level maintenance personnel, coordinating and assigning their work daily.
  • Provides preventative maintenance and repairs to specialized equipment in one area of the facility that requires duties in plumbing, electricity and/or carpentry.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as a tractor, bulldozer, and/or a grader.
  • Repairs small engines, including tractors and lawnmowers.
  • Performs light welding.
  • Installs tile, window glass, doors, wiring and conduits, plumbing fixtures and other varied items.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Indiana driver's license and must obtain a For Hire endorsement,
  • Ability to use and repair a wide variety of hand and power tools, vehicles, and small engines,
  • Working knowledge of, and ability to use skills in, carpentry, welding, masonry, and plumbing,
  • Ability to make repairs to electrical and mechanical equipment,
  • Ability to use and repair a wide variety of hand and power tools, vehicles, and small engines,
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment,
  • Ability to set tile and finish concrete and plaster,
  • Ability to coordinate the work of others,
  • Ability to read and follow guidelines and blueprints and to handle simple mathematical problems when making repairs,
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools in making repairs,
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing,
  • Required at times to work more than 7.5 hours per day, weekend shifts, etc.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $34,216.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
