Position Overview:

The Pricing Strategy Manager is responsible for overseeing pricing governance, deal structuring, RFP responses, contracting, and approval processes for new and renewal PBM client contracts. This role serves as a strategic partner to Sales, Underwriting, Finance, Legal, and Clinical teams to ensure deals are financially sound, compliant, and aligned with company pricing and risk standards. The ideal candidate has deep experience in PBM pricing models, rebate structures, and performance guarantees.

Key Responsibilities:

Deal Review & Pricing Governance

  • Lead the review, structuring, and approval of complex PBM client deals, including new business, renewals, and amendments
  • Ensure all deals comply with pricing policies, financial targets, regulatory requirements, and risk tolerance
  • Evaluate financial impact of pricing components such as:
  • Ingredient cost models (AWP/MAC/NADAC)
  • Rebates and administrative fees
  • Performance guarantees (clinical, financial, operational)

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Sales to provide pricing guidance and deal strategy support
  • Collaborate with Underwriting and Finance to assess deal profitability, risk exposure, and long-term value
  • Work with Legal and Compliance to ensure contract terms align with approved deal economics
  • Coordinate with Clinical and Network teams to assess the impact of formulary, utilization management, and network pricing

Deal Desk Operations

  • Manage the end-to-end deal desk workflow, including intake, review, approvals, and documentation
  • Maintain clear approval matrices and escalation paths for non-standard terms
  • Track deal metrics such as turnaround time, margin/pricing performance, and exception trends
  • Identify process improvements to increase efficiency and consistency across deals

Leadership & Expertise

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on PBM pricing methodologies and contracting structures
  • Provide guidance and training to Sales and Account teams on pricing policies and deal mechanics
  • Support executive leadership with deal analytics and summaries for high-value or high-risk opportunities
Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder deal approvals
  • Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills (Excel required)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in PBM pricing, underwriting, finance, or deal desk functions
  • Strong understanding of PBM financial models, rebates, guarantees, and client contracting
  • Experience in a national or regional PBM environment
  • Experience supporting employer self-insured health plans
  • Prior people management or deal desk leadership experience
