Position Type: Part-time Student Employment
Reports to: Director, VU Mentorship & Student Engagement Initiatives
Position Summary
VU Student Mentors serve as role models and guides for high school sophomores and juniors participating in the VU Mentorship Program. Mentors are trained in the PREPP Approach and support mentees in exploring career pathways, postsecondary options, goal setting, and college readiness through structured weekly sessions over an academic year.
Key Responsibilities
Complete PREPP Approach mentor training and refresher sessions.
Build positive, supportive relationships with assigned mentees.
Conduct monthly mentoring sessions (1–2 hours) at partner high schools with each student.
Guide mentees through PREPP stages: Plan, Research, Evaluate, Prepare, Place.
Support students in identifying academic, career, and postsecondary goals.
Maintain progress tracking and session documentation.
Attend scheduled mentor check-ins and feedback sessions.
Participate in program orientation, training, and recognition events.
Serve as a VU ambassador within partner high schools.
Communicate professionally with program staff and high school contacts.
Maintain confidentiality and follow university mentoring policies.
Qualifications
Enrolled VU student in good academic standing.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Dependable, organized, and able to commit for full academic year.
Interest in leadership, service, education, or community engagement.
Willingness to travel to local high schools (mileage reimbursed).
