Description

The Design Engineer III develops and refines technical design solutions for complex systems, components, and assemblies supporting NSWC Crane mission requirements. This role evaluates alternative design approaches, translates engineering requirements into implementable configurations, and supports design maturation through analysis, prototyping, and iterative review. The engineer works across structural, mechanical, and electrical/electronic domains to ensure designs are technically sound, producible, and aligned to program objectives. This position is contingent upon award. Award is expected by the end of the year (2026).

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or Industrial Design
- 7+ years of professional experience in mechanical, structural, or electrical/electronic design.
- Ability to develop and compare alternative layouts/designs and recommend balanced solutions based on technical and programmatic tradeoffs.
- Demonstrated skill applying engineering principles to produce clear, accurate, and review-ready design artifacts.
- Experience supporting design verification efforts and resolving technical issues identified during integration and test.
- Strong communication and coordination skills to work effectively with government IPTs and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Active DoD Secret clearance (or clearable to that level) required due to support for classified programs and facilities.

- Demonstrated experience delivering design solutions for DoD systems, including trade studies, concept refinement, and integration planning.
- Strong proficiency in design documentation development, including engineering drawings, interface definitions, and technical data packages.
- Experience collaborating with manufacturing, test, and systems engineering teams to transition designs from concept through production.
- Familiarity with modern design and simulation tools for mechanical, structural, or electrical/electronic development.
- Ability to evaluate design impacts from changing requirements, performance constraints, and cost/schedule pressures.
